Showbie>Hazardous Environments>5. Earthquake Hazards

1. Please upload your earthquakes scattergraph 8-marker into the Showbie assignment above.

2. Complete the 'Earthquakes Nepal worksheet' that we started last week. You may need to finish off the slide on tectonic background and impacts (Slide 1). Once you have done that, please move onto the slide on management (Slide 2). Remember the the resources you need are either in the textbook, the WideWorld magazine article that is in Showbie, or online articles that are linked on the slides).

3. Use the 'Managing earthquake hazards' powerpoint (Slides 1-9) to complete the 'Managing earthquake hazards worksheet'. This involves some writing on p.1, then lots of reading and highlighting, and then creating a summary table on p.7. Don't worry about the video clips.

4. Complete 'Christchurch Park Model exercise' worksheet - copy the statements from Slide 2 and paste them into the appropriate point of the Park Model curve (i.e. where do they fit in the management...before the earthquake strikes, in the immediate aftermath, in the long term recovery?). You will need to open the document as a Powerpoint to do this - don't forget to re-upload when you're done.

5. You can check your working for Task 3 and 4 on Slides 10-19 of the 'Managing earthquake hazards' Powerpoint (Slides 10-19). But have a go at 3 and 4 yourself first.

6. If you finish all this inside the two double lessons, then you can watch this video: https://clickv.ie/w/d-Ij

7. Finish any of Tasks 1-5 that you didn't complete in the two double lessons for homework.
