Note: some steps of the explication process do not need to be written down. Be sure the write down the following steps:

1. Summarize the poem

2. Identify the emotion of the poem.  

3. Indicate if the poem has an interesting rhythm or rhyme. 

4. Identify the word choice.  Are any words that stand out in the overall meaning to the poem? 
5. Indicate how the poem is organized. (is it organized by stanza, how many?) 

6. Identify the figurative language in the poem. 

7. Identify the theme of the poem.
