Consider the names and objects found in Lois Lowry's The Giver and you knowledge of the bible. Answer the following questions:
1. Consider Jonas and Jonah (the prophet God chose to proclaim judgement on a sinful city). Why would Lowry name the protagonist Jonas? How does this allude to the bible?
2. The angel Gabriel was God's messenger who announced to Mary the birth of Christ. How does this shed light on the Gabriel in the novel?
3. Provide at least one other example of biblical allusions found in the story and explain your position.
